Top 5 Interview Tips
You nailed the phone part and now the big day is finally here. Your off for the first face-to-face interview for your dream job. Hold on a second though, don’t you want to make sure you walk into your interview completely prepared? Below is a list of tips to keep in your mind for your interview.
- Do Your Research
There is a reason why this is number one. It’s because to a prospective employer this can be the biggest deal breaker when it comes to your interview. Not knowing anything about the company your applying for betrays a lack of interest on your part even if that’s not what you intended. Just remember to always be prepared when you walk in those doors.
What do you bring to the table? What are your strengths and weaknesses? How are you looking to progress with the company? These are all questions you need to be asking yourself before your interview as this is what will be on the interviewers mind.
- Dress to succeed
The old adage goes “dress for the job you want, not for the job you have.” Make sure you wear a suit or something similar. First impressions are important and you won’t get another chance to make one.
- Arrive on time
There are a thousand things that can make you late for your interview: traffic delays, getting lost, can’t find parking etc. Plan for these eventualities accordingly and arrive at least 10-15 minutes early.
- Keep calm, carry on
Take a few deep breaths, close your eyes and relax. It’s okay to be nervous but getting yourself worked up will do no good. So just remember to be calm, confident and forthright. Talk but don’t interrupt and keep your answers relevant.
